Lota Creative Living & Entertaining Home

Description
Clients

Designed by architect Allan Booker for Lighting Engineer Ian Quatermass and Banker, Dance Instructor Jodie Quatermass this home incorporates four split levels of entertaining and practical living spaces. The home was centred on the CBus computer control system which took care of all lighting, entertainment and security systems including sensor controlled sliding glass doors between levels. The central stairwell leads from the basement level Night Club up to the top level bedrooms via polished stainless steel stairs all within a central glass window wall.

Second level included four car accommodation and storage for Ian’s vast array of staging and lighting equipment with access to the central stairwell and up to the entry level. This level takes care of the large entertainer’s kitchen with walk in pantry, open plan living lounge with library, bathroom and guest bedroom.

From here you head on up to the bedroom level which includes main bedroom with walk in robe and luxury ensuite with vertical glass skylight shaft. This level also includes an additional main bathroom and two more generous bedrooms.

This project started with the extensive excavation of the site to allow for the basement level to be completely buried below the existing ground level. It included C Bus controlled pumps housed in an external sump to keep the water table below the basement floor level. Construction was concrete filled block work with concrete suspended slabs to all levels making this home a virtual bomb shelter. Inside finishes included square set plaster board with shadow lines to the ceilings and skirtings.

All in all a very contemporary home built with very specific client driven requirements resulting in a superbly built and extremely robust building.
